There have been few photos of Ed Kemper since he was jailed in 1973 for eight counts of murder - including that of his own mum, Clarnell Stage.
Apart from his mum and her best friend, the six other women he killed were university or school students who he picked up hitchhiking around Santa Cruz.
When he was imprisoned, Kemper had a thick moustache and thin, wire-rimmed glasses - both of which were present in later mugshots.
But the most recent photo, estimated to have been taken within the last three years, shows him without either.
Now aged in his 70s, Kemper is slightly stubbled but otherwise clean-shaven, and he isn't wearing his trademark 'serial killer glasses'.
The picture was released as part of the trailer for Investigation Discovery's new podcast, The Co-Ed Killer: Mind of a Monster, which culminated in to a 2-hour TV special aired last month.
